With the warmer weather bringing a freeze-thaw to our streets, the Weyburn Police Service is reminding drivers to pay attention.

Corporal Jason Rutten shared some tips for ensuring you don't cause an accident.

"Drive for the road conditions. With the temperatures warming up, the under part of the pavement may still be frozen with the flush on top will make things a lot harder to stop, so slow down. Take your time. You don't have to be in a hurry. Drive for the conditions."

He said it's never a good idea to use your phone while driving.

"Distracted driving is a problem anytime, but when you start to add in other factors like the weather, slippery roads, wet conditions, winds, low visibility, distracted driving becomes even more of a problem, which potentially results in more accidents possibly involving property damage or harm to individuals on the street or in vehicles."

"It's not a good idea to be using your phone while you're driving, period," he stated. "It's even a worse idea when driving conditions are bad."
