An annual holiday tradition will be returning to Weyburn this weekend. The Weyburn Fire Department will be holding its toy drive.

“It will be this Saturday, and we’re going to be doing it in two locations this year,” explained Mike Hudson with the fire department. “We’re going to be at Walmart and Peavey Mart, and it starts at 10 o’clock in the morning, and goes until 2 (o’clock) in the afternoon.”

This year, they are hoping to stuff two trucks full of toys. Firefighters will be at both locations collecting donations.

“You can either drop it off or you can go into the store, pick up a gift for a child from The Family Place, and put it in the truck,” Hudson added.

Hudson said the community has been really great each year with the campaign, filling the truck up with toys for The Family Place. This year, they are adding a second truck, upping their goal for the year.

As for what sort of toys they are looking for, the drive will be primarily for toys aimed at a younger audience – around three or four years old.

“This will be the first year that we’re actually doing two fire trucks,” Hudson said. “This will be the first year that we’re actually doing two fire tricks. We’re aiming high this year, so hopefully Weyburn can get behind us and help us out.”
