A former captain of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings has made the jump to the professional ranks. Mike Eskra, who played with the Wings from 2014 to 2018, and was captain of the squad in the 2017-18 season, signed a contract with the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder.  

In his time with the Red Wings, the blueliner skated in 192 games with the Red Wings, scored 26 goals and added 96 assists. He also played in 28 playoff games with the Red Wings, adding 15 more points.  

After his time with the Red Wings, Eskra went on to the University of Regina, where he played in 85 games over the course of five seasons. He was also the captain for the 2022-23 season. Eskra scored six goals and added 26 points in his time with the Cougars.  

Eskra’s new team, the Thunder, is currently 5th in the North Division of the ECHL. He also joins two former teammates in the ECHL – forward Carson Rose who plays with the Indy Fuel and forward Chris Van Os-Shaw, who plays with the Wichita Thunder.
