The Fillmore Recreation Centre's rink is now open for rentals.

The ice was completed about two weeks ago. Chansi Bourke, Chairperson of the Fillmore Recreation Centre, said that last year they finished installing the boards and plexiglass. This year, the zamboni room has been completed, with the cement having been poured a few weeks ago.

Bourke said they haven't had a grand opening yet, but they are open and available for practices from other rinks, who are more than welcome to make use of their canteen.

She also said that there will be public skating on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., as well as on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Figure skating is also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

"There is a tournament coming up that's a Regina U9 tournament if people would like to come and watch on February 28th."

Bourke added that it was a huge undertaking to renovate the rink.

"It wouldn't have happened without all the volunteer work of the community. So that is just greatly appreciated for sure and to everybody that donated, we've had a few large donations come forward, and again, it wouldn't have happened without that, and we also had the village office put in a grant for us too, so that also helped us on our way too. These buildings are aging and need a lot of repairs to keep them up to spec."
