After a brief warm-up, temperatures are back down into the -20° range for much of the province this morning. The drop in temperatures is being accompanied by high winds as well.

Here in the Weyburn area, the overnight high that was recorded was -10°, before things started to get really cold again, with the temperature dropping back down to -22° by morning. The drop in temperature was accompanied by high winds, and blowing snow, which resulted in the provincial Ministry of Highways having to issue some travel not recommended advisories for the area.

Travel was not recommended on Highway 39 this morning from Yellow Grass up towards Moose Jaw, and on Highway 39 from Midale thru Estevan to North Portal. This was primarily due to snow drifts forming on the highway, as well as reduced visibility. Other highways in the area were reporting winter driving conditions due to drifting snow.

Highway conditions can change quickly here in southeast Saskatchewan. Stay up to date with the latest conditions by visiting the Road Report page.

While the temperature dropped back down to the -22° mark by this morning, things are looking up for the rest of the week. Starting Tuesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for temperatures to be up above the 0° mark. The milder air is expected to stick around for much of the week.
