You ask and you shall receive.

The Weyburn Fire Department asked City Council for approval of two new pieces of equipment which will help them in the long term when it comes to battling blazes in the city and rural area.

Council approved the purchase of a 2011 Rescue/Pumper and a 2011 Tanker/Pumper.
Weyburn Fire Chief Steve Debienne says, "I am very pleasured by council's approval on these two pieces of critical apparatus that we now have coming. The Rescue/Pumper, with the increased traffic in our area, is really starting to pressure our resources for the call of motor vehicle collisions in the area and our responses to them are slightly going up over the years. It's one of those apparatus' that will not only serve the residents of Weyburn but surrounding area as well."

As for the importance of the Tanker/Pumper, Debienne says, "the big goal is to have adequate water supply anywhere we are fighting a fire. Our apparatus has big pumps and we can use a lot of water very quickly and there are certain spots in Weyburn, if there were a major fire, our hydrants system will be taxed to it's limits and with an apparatus like this we can supply more water to the areas."

Debienne feels City Council is taking a big step forward when it comes to the safety of it's citizens.
