Weyburn's Mayor Marcel Roy this afternoon is presented with a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.

He said those in the role of Mayor in a number of Saskatchewan cities are receiving them Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the RCMP Heritage Centre in Regina.

"Mr. [Roy] Ludwig down in Estevan is getting one also. He has served far greater time on Council than I have but it's still a part of that they are issuing it," Roy noted.

The Mayor reminded Weyburn residents have until October 31st to nominate someone within our City for one of these special medals. https://weyburn.ca/queen-elizabeth/

"If you see someone who has done a lot of good valued work within our community, good citizenship," he invited.

The Platinum Jubilee medal, he said, is a very special one.

"We will never see a platinum medal ever again, probably, in another 200 years. This, at 70 years on the throne, that was a remarkable reign for Queen Elizabeth, certainly," he noted.

A number of other Weyburn residents will be receiving the honour today as well.

He added you can also nominate someone for the medal through the local MLA's office
