The 57th Annual Threshing Show is coming back to Midale on August long weekend. The two-day event held by the Souris Valley Antique Association (SVAA) is jam-packed with activities for the whole family.

Several organizations teamed together to create an exciting weekend in Midale. The Bull Bash & Cabaret kicks off the long weekend on Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday, the Souris Valley Antique Association takes the reigns beginning with a pancake breakfast at 7 am.

The highlight of both days is the Threshing Show, the event is a step back in time when farming required a bit more sweat and a few more tears.

“The Threshing Show is basically a demonstration of the way harvesting was done back in the early years. And basically, instead of going out with the swather and a combine, guys would take a binder out and they'd cut sheaves and make them into bundles, and they'd load those bundles onto a wagon. And what they would do is they'd haul that wagon into a thrashing machine that was run by a belt from a tractor. And then they would feed these bundles from the wagon, through it, and it would separate your grain from your stalks and everything like that. And it was a very labor-intensive process compared to what we have nowadays,” explained Vice-President, Kyle Swenson.

Included in the event is a parade which will be held both Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm, blacksmithing, and to satisfy the taste buds, some homemade bread will be available.

“For the last number of years, we've actually been making homemade elephant ears. So just fried bread dough and you can season it up with a little bit of cinnamon, sugar, or powdered sugar. And we've got Saskatoon pie. It's been a bit of a tradition for us over the last number of years,” added Swenson.

The event also includes lots of fun for the kids which includes bouncy houses and a rock-climbing wall.

The pancake breakfast will be held on both Saturday and Sunday. The Midale Classy Car Show wraps up the weekend and will run from noon until 3 pm on Sunday.
