A traffic stop in the early hours of Saturday morning resulted in a man facing a number of charges, according to the Weyburn Police Service.

Deputy Police Chief Brent Van De Sype explained that the stop was initiated when the driver was noticed to be driving erratically. Once pulled over, it turned out there was a lot more happening than just a charge of impaired driving, according to police.

“There was some contraband in the vehicle, the driver did not have a valid driver’s license, and he was also failing to comply with release conditions,” added Van De Sype. “Ultimately he was charged with a number of offences.”

Those offences include possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The man who was the passenger of the vehicle was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Both men are scheduled to make court appearances on the charges at a future date.
