Thursday, Mar. 19

Schools in Weyburn will officially close tomorrow, and the Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division has announced their facilities will also be closed to all staff until March 27th inclusive. Staff can be accessed through their email accounts. Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact

The R.M. of Weyburn and the R.M. of Brokenshell are closed to the public. Staff are, however, in the office conducting business, and will continue to receive emails, phone calls, faxes and mail. The Early Childhood Education Learning Fair, scheduled for March 26th, has been cancelled.

The Wheatland Seniors Centre in Weyburn is closed until further notice.

The organizing committee for Weyburn Communithon has cancelled the meetings scheduled for March 24th and April 21st. A decision will be made at a later date concerning the May meeting. Work will continue, however, behind the scenes to get the 2020 Communithon ready for this fall.

Effective immediately all masses and events at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church will be suspended for three weeks, as directed by the archdiocese. You are welcome to come into the church to pray between 9 AM - 4 PM, daily. Social distancing is encouraged.

The Weyburn branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, as a result of the declaration of a state of emergency by the provincial government, is closed to the public effective immediately.

The Weyburn Care-A-Van Society is cancelling its services to limit the spread of COVID-19. Read more HERE.

The Weyburn Public Library will be closing their doors at 8:30 p.m. tonight. They will not be re-opening until April 19th. Read more HERE.

Wednesday, Mar. 18

The Weyburn Concert Series has announced they have made the difficult decision to postpone the Tenille Arts concert, which scheduled for April 8th at Cugnet Centre. The ticket holders will be able to put their ticket toward the future event date, which is still yet to be determined.

The Weyburn Free Methodist Church has cancelled services and programming from now until April 5th. Church Services will not be held on March 22nd, March 29th, and April 5th. There will be a shorter-than-normal service live video and audio streamed at www.weyburnfmc.com and also broadcast on AM1190 on those Sundays at 11:00 a.m.

The Weyburn Salvation Army will be closing the Thrift Store until further notice. Community and Family Services will have no public access. The Food Bank will remain open, with appointments needing to be pre-booked and intakes done over the phone. Read more HERE.

The Souper Friday noon Lenten services with soup and sandwiches at the United Church have been cancelled as a precautionary health measure.

Worship services at Zion Lutheran Church are suspended until further notice.

The Weyburn Wildlife Federation is cancelling the annual Fred Garner Memorial Banquet. It was scheduled to be held on April 25th.

The Canadian Mental Health Association Weyburn Branch is suspending all regularly-scheduled activities, programming, services, groups, and meetings effective March 20th to April 6th, 2020 inclusive. If in crisis, in need of a quick response, or in case of emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the Weyburn General Hospital.

Envision Counselling and Support is shifting to telephone-based delivery of services. This will take effect immediately for walk-in counselling, and will start on Monday for their current clients.

The Weyburn Legion will be closing their business doors for a minimum of 14 days, effective immediately. They will continue to provide services for their members, and veterans in the community.

The Weyburn Youth Centre (TAGS) will be closing its doors for the time being.

Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn as well as Knox Hall are currently closed with hopes to open back up in April.

Tuesday, Mar. 17

All leisure facilities in the city of Weyburn are closed effective Tuesday, and all arts and cultural programming have been suspended until further notice. The decision was announced late Monday. Read more HERE.

The facilities affected include the Weyburn Leisure Centre, Crescent Point Place, Tom Zandee Sports Arena and the Soo Line Historical Museum. The City is monitoring the situation, and working with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, to determine when the facilities may re-open.

The Weyburn Public Library, along with all branches of the Southeast Regional Library, are cancelling all programming, events and classes effective immediately. Libraries, though, will remain open offering basic services.

At this time, Weyburn City Council will still conduct its regularly scheduled meeting on March 23rd.

Classes at Southeast College are being impacted by COVID-19 as well. 

All in-person academic classes at the college, at all campuses, will be suspended for the remainder of the week. This includes the campus here in Weyburn. This is being done in partnership with other post-secondary institutions across Saskatchewan.

The suspended courses include full time, part-time, adult basic education, English as a second language and University of Regina classes. The goal is to start online courses and alternative delivery programming for the students, where possible, next Monday.

At Southeast College, the business development, industry and safety classes will not be impacted at this time. The campuses will also remain open. You can find out more details on their website.

The Weyburn Humane Society is closing its facilities here in the community for the time being. This is a precaution for the public and staff, as the facility is too small to safely accommodate people at this time.

Knights of Columbus have cancelled their bingo for March 18th. They will assess whether their April 1st bingo will be held closer to the date.

Quota International will be postponing all women of the year activities. This is due to the current recommendations about social distancing. The intention is to resume the events when possible.

The Weyburn Curling Club has shut down all league play effective immediately. They will also be cancelling the weekend windup spiel. In a statement posted on social media, club president Clare Johnson said the primary reason was due to the social responsibility to think first of the community and the health care teams within it.

And the free concert featuring Kearstin Pfeifer at the Free Methodist Church on March 25th has been canceled as well.
