Looking back on 2021, even trickling back to the beginning of the pandemic, adding puppies into homes has seen a major growth. Families have been spending more time at home than ever before and with that extra time at home and the extra money kicking around from travel restrictions have led people to put their time and money into a furry addition to the family.

Bella Britt with Bella Grande Poodles & Doodles, shares on the surge of puppies, “at the peak of Covid we were having litters of puppies sold before they were even more born”

As we see prices in every department begin to inflate throughout the pandemic, the price of pets has followed suit. Britt says many reasons play into this “breeder prices have been gradually going up over the years. Things like dog food, Vet expenses and testing, which is something that wasn’t done back in the day, so all these things have made it a little more expensive to raise the dogs”

It seems like any breed of dog, in general has gone up, Britt says that has changed during the pandemic “During the pandemic I think it actually looks like puppies are more expensive. What is happening is puppies that you normally would see for $300 or $400 dollars, those puppies are coming up and levelling off with breeder prices. So, it looks like puppies in general are way more expensive, but I think what happen is that everyone has raised their prices to breeder level.”
