While it was a busy long weekend throughout the Weyburn area, it was a relatively quiet one for the Weyburn Police Service.

"The calls that we had for service was 85 calls, and that's sort of an average to lower end," said Police Chief Jamie Blunden. "We only had two incidents where charges were laid, so when we think of it, 11 charges altogether, three were for the Bylaws, six for the Traffic Safety Act and there's only two under the Criminal Code, so a relatively quiet weekend for us here in Weyburn."

He said it was likely due to so many people being away for the weekend at the lakes in the area.

Nickle Lake Day was held Saturday, and Chief Blunden applauded the organizers of the 'Safe Rides Home' around and from the park into Weyburn.

"That's being responsible, right? Hats off to the individual that organized that," he said. "At the end of the day, anytime you can make it safe for the people that are out enjoying themselves for a long weekend and then make it a safe ride home, kudos to them for that."

"That's why Weyburn's such a great place, community involvement and people making it safer things for the members out there and for the citizens," he commented. "Anytime we can prearrange for transportation for individuals that are indulging, I think that's going to make it safer on the roads for everyone."

He added that overall it was a good weekend for the Weyburn community.
