The blizzard coming into the region today is being preceded by some freezing rain. It started to fall in the late morning hours and could continue to fall on and off throughout the afternoon before the winds start to pick up and the snow starts to fall.

With the rain comes some potentially icy road conditions, and that has the Weyburn Police Service reminding motorists to be careful out there.

“We’re just reminding motorists to drive with caution, take some extra time if they have to venture out today, and just be mindful that the roads are going to be slick for the next few hours,” said Corporal Riley Doud with the WPS.

Doud also pointed out motorists should drive to the conditions, including slowing down if needed. As well, he said stopping distances will be reduced by the icy conditions, so more distance should be allowed for stopping. Turning can be impacted by the slick roads as well.
