A popular summer program is making its return to Weyburn. Starting Wednesday, Tourism Weyburn’s Be A Tourist in Your Own Hometown kicks off for its sixth year.

“We want residents to go out and be ambassadors for our own community and highlight things that they like to do,” explained Monica Osborn, the executive director of Weyburn Tourism. To help get people out and exploring the community, this year there is again the incentive of a prize draw at the end of the summer. This year, the twist to enter is that it's being done bingo-style.

Residents and visitors to the community are invited to come by the Weyburn Tourism office to pick up the bingo cards, Osborn added.

“On there, it has suggestions of different places to check out,” she said.

When people visit places indicated on the card, or when taking part in the various experiences on the card, they can take a picture of where they have gone. Then, they can get the square on the bingo card validated by stopping back at the office. Those taking part can go one photo at a time, or have them all verified at once. To get the card completed, a line of five squares needs to be completed. Once that happens, it goes in for a draw that will be made at the end of the campaign.

As for the activities and places highlight on the card, Osborn pointed out they are quite varied.

"We have things about trying out some ice cream at local shops, or exploring our Tatagwa Parkway trail systems, going through the Soo Museum or Heritage Village; There’s lots of different things,” Osborn elaborated. “It also incorporates outside of our city, which includes Nickle Lake as well as the golf course.”

The campaign, of course, is to highlight the city of Weyburn and the different things to see and do.

To pick up the cards, people can stop by the Tourism Weyburn offices at 11 3rd Street. The contest runs from Wednesday through to September 5th.
