A local group wants to bring attention to the missing and murdered aboriginal women and girls.

The Red Dress campaign had its roots in the Idle No More movement where members would collect red dresses to represent one of the missing or murdered aboriginal women and girls.

There are 12,00 documented cases of missing or murdered aboriginal women and girls, and the aim is to have a red dress for each.

There will be an Aboriginal Day Celebration held in Estevan to help raise awareness for this cause. It will be held June 21 at Centennial Park from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event will include a free barbecue lunch, as well as entertainment by Aboriginal Dancers, and the Metis Jiggers from Regina.

The dresses will either be displayed in Toronto, or in Regina on October 4 during the vigil for the missing and murdered. The dresses will be donated to a local charity after the event.
