A strong performance over the weekend helped Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings captain Max Monette earn the SJHL’s MVP of the Week award. The announcement was made Monday afternoon.

Over the past week, Monette scored five goals and added two assists. Three of those goals came Friday night as he picked up a hat trick in Weyburn’s 6-2 win over the visiting Nipawin Hawks.

So far this season, Monette has scored seven goals and added seven assists for a total of 14 points. He is also tied for 8th in the overall scoring race.

The Red Wings snapped a five-game losing skid over the weekend, picking up the win at home over the Hawks, and following it up with a 5-4 win over the Terriers in Yorkton. The Red Wings are now 6-3-0-3 on the season and are first in the Viterra Division, and 4th overall in the SJHL.

The Red Wings are back in action Thursday night when they host the Battlefords North Stars at Crescent Point Place, the first meeting between the two teams since Game 5 of the SJHL quarterfinals last season.
