There was plenty of action in the Senior Hockey Leagues this past weekend with games all across Southern Saskatchewan. Here is a November 24th-26th recap of the 5 games played in the Big 6 Hockey League and the 6 games played in the Noteku Hockey League.

The Redvers Rockets hosted the Bienfait Coalers on Friday night. The Rockets would break the ice with a powerplay goal in the 1st period, quickly following that up with another, and the Coalers would take until the 2nd period to respond. The two teams traded blows throughout the 2nd, with the Rockets dominating in the 3rd, resulting in an 8-3 win for the home team.

The Carnduff Red Devils made the trip to Moosomin to play the Rangers Friday night. Forward Bud Holloway would further secure his standing as scoring leader in the league, earning the first two points for Moosomin in the first and 2 more in the 2nd. It would take former Red Wings captain Ben Hiltz to break the Rangers' stride, scoring unassisted late in the 3rd. The game finished with a 7-2 win for the Rangers.

On Saturday, the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings took on the Carlyle Cougars at the Kipling Arena. The Cougars would place 5 shots in the net before Kai Jooristy would score the first goal for the Oil Kings late in the 2nd. After a grueling 3rd period, and a few calls for tripping and slashing, the final score was recorded 6-2 for Carlyle.

On Sunday, the Redvers Rockets would soar again on their home ice versus the Midale Mustangs. 3 goals scored by the Rockets in quick succession would secure their lead in the 1st, with the Mustangs taking advantage of a powerplay to earn a spot on the scoreboard before the period was through. The 2nd period saw Midale's Sterling Bear score the second goal for his team, and a quick response by the Rockets. After a high-scoring 3rd period, the final result was an 8-4 win for Redvers.

The Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings also donned their skates once more on Sunday, facing off against the Bienfait Coalers at the Kipling arena. Kaelan Holt scored the first goal of the game for Bienfait with teammate Ryan Curzon scoring the second in the 1st period. The majority of scoring would happen throughout the 2nd period, with Bienfait scoring 3 shorthanded goals before Luc Englot could take advantage of the Oil Kings' powerplay. A lone goal by KW's Brandon Munro in the 3rd would finish the game with a score of 6-4 for Bienfait.

A game between the Hodgeville Huskies and Glentworth Thunder would mark the beginning of the Noteku Hockey League's weekend action. The teams played at Hodgeville's Community Rink Friday night. Reid Hawkins would welcome the visitors with an early goal in the 1st for the Huskies, with the Thunder making themselves at home scoring 3 points in the 2nd period. The Huskies put a stop to the streak by scoring four goals in the 3rd, resulting in a 5-3 win for Hodgeville.

Assiniboia hosted Gravelbourg on Friday, seeing the visiting hornets take on the Rebels at the Southland Coop Centre. The Hornets dominated in the 1st period delivering 5 goals against the Rebels' 1. The Hornets would also be the only goal scorers in the 2nd period, with Assiniboia taking until the final two minutes of the game to respond. The result: a 7-2 win for Gravelbourg.

The Avonlea Merchants and Coronach Arrows also played Friday night, at the Avonlea Memorial Rink. The 1st period would see two unanswered goals by the Merchants, followed by an even 3-goals-a-piece for each team in the 2nd. The Arrows would secure their win in the 3rd, scoring three more goals before the period was halfway through. The game ended in a 7-5 win for Avonlea.

On Sunday, the Assiniboia Rebels hosted again. This time, taking on the Gelntworth Thunder at the Southland Coop Centre. It was a shakey start for the Rebels following three goals by the Thunder throughout the first period. However, it was all Assiniboia for the remainder of the game. Three goals by the rebels in the 2nd would pair with two more in the 3rd, resulting in a final score of 6-3 for Assiniboia.

At the Radville Rec. Centre, the Avonlea Arrows would try to find some footing against the Radville Nationals Sunday night. The Nationals would allow for zero errors though, scoring once in the 1st period, twice in the 2nd, and 3 goals in the 3rd. The result: a shutout win for Radville.

Finally, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings would take the money and run following their Sunday night game against the Rouleau Ramblers. Triston Sorenson and Reid Vulcano would be the only two goal-scorers for the Ramblers, on their home ice. The Wheat Kings left Rouleau Memorial Rink with a 27-2 win against the Ramblers.
