Wondering what to do with your kids over the Christmas break?

Since classes don't return until January 9th, the City is offering more spaces in this year's Winter Day Camp programming at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre.

“It's going to be very similar our summer camps that we did, it's the same kind of model,” shared Ryan Dale, the Leisure Services Manager with the City of Weyburn. “So we're actually combining arts and sport because it's tough to have all those kids just sitting in an art room for eight hours. That's a long day, and they don't want to sit. So we ended up finding that we had to go take them out and play sports and recreation anyway, so it's easier for staff to coordinate and everything and it's worked out really well.”

“It'll be half and half basically, so they'll do a different art project every day, and then they'll also learn some new sports and play games as well, like your normal school games, red rover, all that fun stuff.”

He said it's important to keep kids busy with structured play.

“They get can take on bad habits, especially in that development of their life,” he noted. “They could do nothing and have no structure and go back to school, and it's tough. So if you have structure, it's great for parents who maybe don't get the holidays off. Not everyone does, so it's a great outlet.”

He said the camps are affordable, and the art they make is high-quality, such as clay projects. They have also retained their staff this past year, so the same people are growing with experience.

This year's winter day camps have 20 spots available with four days between Christmas and New Year's and then five days in the first week of January. They'll run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and you can book only one of the two weeks if desired.
