The SJHL Draft was held Tuesday afternoon, and the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings made 10 selections during the draft. The team did not have a first-round selection in the 09 Draft, with the Melville Millionaires holding that pick. The Red Wings did get to make the first selection of the second round, however, and went with 09-born defenceman Ethan Young, who played last season with the Regina Pat Blues U15 AA squad.

The Red Wings followed that selection with 09-born forward Hunter Wilm from the Swift Current Broncos U15AA team in the 19th overall position.

In the 08 Draft, Weyburn had the 7th overall pick and selected defenceman Tyler Hudec of the U18 AA Swift Current Broncos. The 13th overall pick also belonged to the Red Wings, and they chose forward Mason Fauser from the U18 AAA Swift Current Legionnaires.

The 24th overall pick, and second selection in the second round for Weyburn, was Elias Haukeness, a defenceman who skated with the U18 AAA Moose Jaw Warriors last year. This pick was followed up with the 31st pick in the draft, Sawyer Scheidt, a forward who skated with the U18 AA Saskatoon Riverkings last season.

With the 40th overall selection, the Red Wings picked forward Kash Alger-East from the Battlefords Stars U18 AAA program, and then selected defenceman Nigel Boehm from the U18 AAA Saskatoon Contacts with the 55th overall choice.

In the sixth round, the Red Wings selected two more forwards. With the 62nd pick, they chose Carter Corbett from the U18 AA North East Wolfpack and then selected forward Chase Petersen with the 67th overall choice from the Moose Jaw U18 AAA Warriors.

The Red Wings staff are now meeting this week with the other teams to set up the 2024-25 SJHL schedule.
