A group of Oungre parents joined together to assess childcare availability in the area, realizing there was a need for a daycare the group sprang into action to create the new facility. 

“We formed a board and we applied to the government to be a fully government-funded daycare. We received our funding in the spring. This year we will have 20 spots from 12 months to the end of kindergarten or age 6 and that will be located here in Oungre,” explained Taylor Rein, Secretary of the Souris Valley Daycare Board. 

Many area residents and organizations immediately jumped on board to help finance the new initiative. 

“We have had a lot of support from our RMs that surround us, so RM 7, the RM of Lomond, the RM of Torquay, they've all been financial supporters. We've had some financial support from Vermilion, they've reached out and we have lots of local farmers who have been supporting us and lots of silent auction items that have been donated for upcoming fundraisers.” 

Swinging its way into summer, the Souris Valley Daycare is hosting a golf tournament. 

“On June 24th, we are hosting our first annual golf tournament, it'll be here at Oungre Memorial Park. We are having a catered supper by Beats Eatz, so we are looking for teams of four to golf. We have prizes for various activities throughout the day. And then a catered supper and a cash bar and lots of really cool silent auction items.” 

The cost to enter a team which also includes supper is $200. The deadline to register for the event is June 14. Separate tickets for the smoked brisket supper are also available for $35, also available are $5 kids’ meals for ages 5 to 12 which include a hotdog, chips, and a drink, ages 4 and under eat free. Construction for the new project is underway, the new building will be brought in from a remote location, and doors for the non-profit are scheduled to open this fall.
