A pair of games on the road for the U18 AA South East Gold Wings this weekend. They were in Warman to take on the Wildcats Friday night, and in Saskatoon Saturday to play the Comet Legends. Unfortunately, the Gold Wings came away from both games with losses.

In the game Friday, the Gold Wings took the early lead as Katelyn Thackeray scored at the 3:03 mark. Her unassisted goal would be the only one of the opening frame.

In the second, Chloe Horner scored for Warman to even things up. The goal came on the power play just 1:09 into the period. The tie wouldn’t last through the period, though, as the Gold Wings restored the advantage with 6:38 to play. The goal came from the stick of Mckenna Walls, and Thackeray had the assist on the tally.

Ella Currie would even the game up again, however, as Warman scored with 4:08 to play.

In the third period, Horner scored her second of the evening with a shorthanded goal, making it 3-2. The score would stand, and the Gold Wings came up just short.

Saturday morning, the Gold Wings were on the ice in Saskatoon against the Comet Legends. Saskatoon would score two goals in the first period, then hold on to win 5-1. Kiera Olsen and Ashlyn Bernath scored in the opening frame for the home side. Then, a power play goal from Vanessa Mountford and a shorthanded goal from Shelby Lacoursiere in the opening half of the second period made it 4-1.

Walls would reply for the Gold Wings with just one second left on the clock in the second period, but in the third, the South East squad was unable to overcome the deficit. Bernath would add her second of the game to make it 5-1.

The Gold Wings will now play three games in three nights at home this coming weekend, starting with a visit from the Warman Wildcats on Friday.
