A number of strong showings by Weyburn athletes at the Southeast District Athletic Association meet in Estevan this week, with a number of athletes qualifying for provincials, which will be held next weekend in Saskatoon.

A total of 17 athletes from Weyburn Comprehensive School will be off to provincials, competing in a total of 27 events.

Paul Dionne was one of the most dominant athletes, qualifying for provincials in four separate events. He took first in the senior boys' 100m, long jump, high jump and triple jump. Others from the senior boys grouping off to provincials include Owen Hiltz in the 3000m, Axel Lund in the shot put, and William Vilcu in shot put.

There are two senior girls off to provincials. Mary Sidloski finished second in all three events she competed in: the 200m, 80m hurdles, and long jump. Alexis Vandermay finished first in the 3000m to qualify for provincials.

Brett Bowler is the lone junior boy to qualify for provincials, where he will be competing in two events. He took first place in the 400m and the triple jump. 

Chandler Dickie and Angelina Addo will be the two junior girls athletes representing WCS. Dickie finished second in the high jump, while Addo took first in shot put.

WCS will be represented by three midget boys. Alex Lund and Braden Hala finished first and second respectively in the shot put to qualify. Lund also took first in the discus. Zach Olson advanced to provincials by finishing second in the 100m hurdles, and first in the triple jump.

The midget girls are sending the most representatives to provincials, with five athletes qualifying. Kira Barham set the pace in two long distance events, the 800m and the 1500m. Kiera Pittman was first in the 3000m. Soraya Blunt finished second in the shot put and discus events. Rese King topped the triple jump event, and Addison Klapak was second in the 80m hurdles.
