On Friday, April 26th and 28th, 2023, at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon, 15 Weyburn Comprehensive School (WCS) students competed in Skills Canada Saskatchewan.

The medal winners included four gold, five silver, and four bronze medals awarded to WCS students.

The medal winners are as follows: Gold for hairstyling braiding, Kary Huang, silver for hairstyling bridal, Kary Huang, bronze for aesthetics, Carlee Wade and model Shayna Gosling, silver for electrical, Nicholas Borth, bronze for construction, Jack Vogel, bronze for baking/pastry confectionary, Sy Boquida, bronze for public speaking, Dalton Molnar, gold for IT software applications, Natalie Butz, silver for IT software applications, Camryn Greve, gold for machining, Max Lawrence, gold for architectural technologies, John Barretto, silver for mechanical CADD, Noah Lang, and silver for welding, Dylan Honig.

The Skills Canada competition will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba for Nationals, from May 23rd to 28th, 2023.

The Skills Canada Saskatchewan website stated that, "Started in 1994, the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) remains the only event of its kind in Canada."

"Every year, the event brings together over 550 young people from all regions of Canada, along with their parents and advisors, to compete in over 40 trade and technology areas. The main goals of this event are to provide competitors with hands-on work experience and to raise awareness for the general population of the value of and challenge in skilled trades and technology careers."
