Weyburn Oilwomen take a look back at 2023

From fundraiser concerts to Santa for Seniors, it was a busy year in 2023 for the Weyburn Oilwomen.

"We're a pretty diverse group of women whose ultimate goal is to see our community be successful and to help in our communities where we can," Acting Chair Carmen Sterling shared. "We like to volunteer for different functions, and so you'll see some of our members at different functions. We served a meal, for example, for the Chamber event earlier this year."

She said they make donations via application, but they also seek out different initiatives to sponsor or bring to the community.

"The Sled Shed [at River Park] is one, the 'Clear the List' initiative for teachers is a really great fundraiser and we do have some of our members that also support that because the teachers share those wish lists with us, and then we try to clear the list with the help of our members," Sterling noted. "We've donated to other organizations, minor ball, soccer, Wildlife Federation, Weyburn Cooperative Playschool, the Curling Club, Ladies Golf, the ladies night put on by the Fire Department, Radville Ladies night we've helped out."

She said they are also quite proud of their own initiatives this year, such as the Grad Outfit initiative.

"That was the first time that we've done it and we had an amazing response because we had other members of our community step up and provide photos, hair, and makeup for the grads, and we were able to provide great outfits for some graduates that might not have been able to have that experience, so we were really excited about that."

Sterling added they also became the sponsor in 2023 for the Young Woman of Distinction award for the YF Wives Women of Distinction Gala. 

"So we're really excited about the first year having that under our belt."
