Over the weekend, the Weyburn Police Service lent a helping hand to the Estevan Police Service.

The incident started in Estevan around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, when police say they received a report of an armed robbery. The suspect had called a cab and forced the driver from the vehicle at knifepoint. The suspect then drove off and was spotted heading westbound on Highway 39. The driver of the taxi was not injured in the incident.

"Some coordination took place, and with the assistance of the RCMP and Weyburn Police Service, the vehicle was disabled using tire-deflation devices," Sgt. Tyler McMillen with the Estevan Police Service said. "The subject fled on foot. The identity of the accused was determined through investigative means, and eventually, around 4:30 a.m. he was taken into custody."

Twenty-three-year-old Riley Mills-Miller of Estevan has been charged with a number of offences, including stealing a motor vehicle with a weapon, threatening to use a weapon during an assault, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possessing a dangerous weapon and breach of a probation order.

"In the end, it all worked out good," said McMillen. "It just takes a little bit of time [to] try to do it as safe as we can, and not even put the suspect into any more harm than we have to."

Mills-Miller was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Estevan court Monday morning.
