The Weyburn Red Wings entered the 2017 Bantam Draft with five selections in the opening two rounds and made them count. They selected two defensemen, and three forwards, all of which were highly touted by general manager Tanner McCall.

In the first round, the Wings selected Carey Levesque. The defenceman, the younger brother of goaltender Cody Levesque, played with the Estevan Bantam AA Bruins last year, with nine goals and 10 assists in 34 games. He also totaled 41 penalty minutes. Levesque was also called up to the Midget AA Bruins for 10 games last season.

In the second round, the Wings took defenseman Teagan Koehler, who played 36 games with the Saskatoon Maniacs. He picked up 25 points in the campaign and was sixth in the league with 104 penalty minutes.

The 17th overall selection in the draft was Swift Current product, Reed Jacobson. He played with the Bantam AA Broncos and led them as captain to a provincial title. He scored 48 goals, and 84 points, in 38 games including the playoffs.

Rhett Gibson was the 18th overall selection in the draft. Coming from Saskatoon, where he played with the Maniacs along with Koehler, Gibson notched 40 goals and 37 assists in 36 games, the seventh highest point producer in the province last year.

The final pick of the draft for the Red Wings was Jesse Nash. He played with the Sask Valley Vipers, and recorded 47 points, including 19 goals, in 37 games, including the playoffs. He was the 8th leading scorer at the Bantam Westerns, while also leading the event in penalty minutes.
