A construction company from the Yorkton area will be mobilizing crews in Weyburn later this month.

G. Ungar Construction based out of Theodore, Sask., has been awarded the first contract for Weyburn's new reservoir.

Glen Lazeski, project superintendent, said the work being done involved new connections to the main water line from the reservoir to 16th Street, as well as reconnecting the sewer line from the water treatment plant to a new manhole.

This portion of the reservoir project is expected to cost the city around $850,000.

However Lazeski said there is an economic benefit to the community; Weyburn's Swayze Concrete will be providing material for trenches and Weyburn's Souris Valley Industries will be supplying the new manholes.

Lazeski said this project fits perfectly with the scope of their business, as Ungar focuses on water and sewer, large earth moving and electrical work.

He anticipates completion of the project to take three to four weeks, with the biggest battle being excavating through the frost.

The Ungar crew will be between five to 10 staff members and will bring excavators and other equipment from their head office.
