The Weyburn Humane Society held a successful Fore Paws Golf Classic fundraising event this past Friday, August 13 at the Weyburn Golf Course.

The Texas Scramble 9-hole tournament saw teams of four competing for bragging rights while helping to raise funds for the local Weyburn Humane Society shelter.

"We are calling this our fourth annual event even though we didn't have one last year due to COVID," explained Kristen Jarocki, Volunteer with the Weyburn Humane Society. "It was a great turnout. We had nine teams come out for the day and there were lots of sponsors this year. There was a lot of overwhelming support from the community so that was really appreciated."

The fundraiser brought in close to $3,000 and all of the funds raised will be allocated towards the local Humane Society's spay and neuter fund that always requires support from the community as there is no government funding for this type of necessary program.

"We're planning to do it again next year. In the past, we had done it in June and we had just pushed it back this year due to COVID restrictions. So we're thinking we'll go back to a June date for 2022," Jarocki shared.

This year the supper after the event was sponsored by Great Plains Ford and they also sponsored the $10,000 hole in one which nobody won this year.

The other hole sponsors for the event were MNP, Eggum Seed Sales, Grant Thornton LLP, South Country Equipment, Schuck Law Firm, N.M. McMahon, and NSWB Law Firm.

"It was a beautiful day there on Friday. Nice warm day. A bit of wind there in the afternoon but not as bad as it was the day before. So we were pretty thankful for the weather to cooperate with us there," expressed Jarocki.

Right now the Weyburn Humane Society is in need of cat and dog food in their shelter, as well as kitty litter, and they thank the community for their ongoing support.

Today they kicked off a new fundraiser called their Beef Raffle which will have the draw date on October 1, 2021.
