Camping season is kicking off this long weekend at Mainprize Regional Park.

“Mainprize Park is ready for visitors this weekend. Get packed, get ready. Bring a jacket, it could be cool,” said Business Manager for Mainprize Regional Park, Donna Frank. “Of course, you can bring your pets to the beach, just have them on leash, and don't forget about fishing and boating if you have a boat, it's always fun.”

Since Mainprize is not a provincial park, campers are allowed to consume alcohol. It is illegal, however, to consume alcohol on a watercraft.

Frank noted a few events going on this weekend at the park.

“We have the Rafferty Walleye Cup, and on Sunday from 10 till 1, we're having a pancake breakfast, which is sponsored by Minard's Leisure World,” she said. "We will also have a Cabaret later that evening on [Sunday]."

While Mainprize has 186 campsites, she said around 40 of them are able to be rented for short-term, such as the weekend or even for the month, whether you’re camping in a tent or a camper.
