Changes could be coming to the hospital levy in Weyburn.

City Council will consider a proposal from the Finance Department Monday evening, which would see the hospital levy reduced from $140 to $40. The reason why? The city has almost met its commitment, made in 2012, to provide $6 million in funding towards a new hospital in Weyburn, and it would be roughly a year and a half early.

By the end of 2019, the levy balance will be just over $5,550,000. With the levy reduced to $40 for the 2020 budget, the balance would be $5,976,670. Interest earned in 2020 and 2021 would put the city over the $6 million mark.

Council will also receive reports from the police commission, the water treatment plant and the fire department.  A delegation from the Southeast Library will also appear before the council.

There will be a vote on an appointment to the library board, a look at an RFP for a new salt storage building for the public works department and amendments to the Cemetery Bylaw.

We will have coverage of the meeting for you starting Tuesday morning, on-air and online.
