The Weyburn Communithon Committee is holding its Annual General Meeting on May 23rd at the Weyburn Legion.

Outgoing Chair Korryn Kubashek said they are encouraging more people to sign up this year to help out with the 42nd annual event.

"I think every organization is struggling to get volunteers on board and Communithon is one of them," she noted. "We really, really strive to bring in new members and new ideas. We had a couple of new people last year and they had fantastic ideas that we used. So we're looking forward to hopefully getting some more new people to come into our AGM on May 23rd and going from there forward to hopefully build more on Communithon. But it definitely it can't happen without a bunch of volunteers."

She said they've got some changes this year to the recurrence of their meetings.

"We used to hold meetings every month and I think we're going to try and cut back a little bit on them because after these four years, everything has kind of run smoothly, like, not every subcommittee we have needs to meet every month before Communithon. Some of them will just be meeting the month before so really it's it's not a huge time constraint on anybody. You can volunteer as much as you want as it's totally up to the person who's coming to the meeting."

The AGM will be held at 7:00 p.m. on May 23rd in the Vimy Room at the Legion, when they'll also vote in a new board of directors.

"It is open to anybody and we welcome all to come, feel us out, come ask some questions, see if it's the right fit for you, and go from there," she invited.

Kubashek said they need people for every committee, and in particular, the allocations committee needs to have people who are not part of their community agencies.

This year's Community Agencies Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association Weyburn Branch, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counseling & Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Southeast Advocates for Employment, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-A-Van Society, and the Weyburn Youth Centre.

"Even if you want to just be on the allocations committee and decide where the money goes and that's a huge thing we need as well," she shared, noting that that committee requires its members to be 18 years or older.

However, "Volunteers definitely by all means we need so many. We're all aging and we need younger excited students in there that even in the high school they can come and join, there's the ambassadors, there are so many more other committees that they can be on as well."

The 42nd annual Communithon will be held at the Weyburn Legion on October 27th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

"We love it, like everybody looks forward to it every year, all the children's entertainments, and it's definitely the community expects it every year. But the community needs to come out and give us some assistance as well."
