The Newsies Junior Musical last week saw three good sized crowds and successful performances by students from Grades 7, 8, and 9 at Weyburn Comprehensive School.

A sneak-a-peek performance in the afternoon of the Tuesday, just before opening night.

We invited Grades 4, 5, and 6 from Legacy [Park Elementary School] and Assiniboia Park [Elementary School], and they decided to bring their [Grades] 5 and 6 [students] for that afternoon," shared Band Teacher Brayden Jensen. "But it was a good chance for the kids to get all their nerves out and it was a great performance. The kids had lots of fun, and it was a good way to start off our string of performances."

He said it's also good the Grades 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to check out the show, as the performers aren't much older than they are.

"It's good for [them] to come and check out what it's like, so that they can maybe be interested and motivated to join up when they join our school."

He said while they don't have a total tally on attendance for the three evening performances, they had, "three good crowds and three good performances by the kids."

"The kids were definitely tired by the end, but it went really well and the kids are always hard on themselves," he noted. "They always come back after the show, 'I forgot this line', or, 'I forgot to do this', or, 'I need to work on this', but yeah overall they did really well."
