The Weyburn Humane Society recently held their annual general meeting where three new members were received by the board. Two members were also elected this year: Randy Bakaluk was reelected as Board President, and Patti Allan was voted as Board Treasurer. Attendance was a bit lower than expected, leaving several positions open for those wishing to join the Board.

"We had a lot of interest and people wanting to come, but due to some of them having to work, they couldn't make it," said Board President Randy Bakaluk. "If anyone is still interested in joining our board, they can send us an e-mail and we will vote on accepting new members at our next board meeting."

Board meetings take place every second Tuesday of the month at the Travelodge Hotel, with the next meeting scheduled for February 13th. Responsibilities of a board member include attending monthly meetings, assisting with fundraising events, and volunteer work as needed for the many odd-jobs that keep the shelter running. Currently, 4 positions remain available for those still wishing to join and offer their skills to the organization.

Other items discussed at the AGM included their building project, future fundraising efforts, and the progress of their current fundraising campaigns.

"We're presently trying to set up meetings with our designer and blueprint designer to get started on those plans for our new building. We're also talking with a couple of people about possible sponsorships," said Bakaluk. "We had more interest on the 'Brick by Brick' campaign, so we're working with them. And just sorting general donations as well."

Their current fundraising focus is the online 50/50, organized through the Humane Society's Facebook Page, which Bakaluk said has already reached a pot of approximately $4,000. Those wishing to submit applications to join the board can send their information to: weyburnhumanesociety@outlook.com
