Every quarter, the provincial government pays out charitable game grants. The grants help a number of groups throughout Saskatchewan, including many in the southeast.

The grants are automatically paid out, without need for application, to groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming events. These include things such as 50/50 draws, raffles, poker tournaments and bingo nights. The grant, paid out by Lottery and Gaming Saskatchewan, is calculated by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority based on the financial reports from an organization and is equal to 25 percent of the net revenue raised by the event.

"The strength of our province is its people," said Laura Ross, Minister Responsible for LGS in a press release issued Wednesday morning. "Charitable organizations and the thousands of volunteers make our communities stronger and more vibrant. Our government is pleased to recognize and reward their hard work and community spirit."

There were 31 organizations across 13 communities in the Weyburn area that received grants.
