A big turnout Wednesday for the official opening of the offices for the Rural Municipalities of Weyburn and Brokenshell. The crowds came out to tour the new offices and take part in a community barbecue.

“The weather definitely helped us out, and the turnout has been phenomenal,” said the Reeve for the RM of Weyburn, Norm McFadden. Plan something like this, you never know how many people are going to show up and it’s been great.”

The new facility is located on the north service road on 1st Avenue Northeast and is substantially larger than the older facility the two RMs shared. There is a sizable council room, offices for all the staff with room for expansion, and space for storage of all their files, something which could be lacking at times in the old facility.

“Square footage wise, this building is three times our old space,” McFadden added. “Lots more storage which we needed for our files and probably our icing on the cake for this building is our community meeting room that we have that’s open for free use to all non-profit groups.”

The location is also key for the RMs. McFadden pointed out that being adjacent to the highway, it will make the offices more accessible for ratepayers in the RMs who want to come in, no matter the vehicle they are driving.
