Residents of Weyburn who have a sasktel.net email address could be paying more on their monthly bills starting in April.

SaskTel has announced that they will be charged $1.95 per month per sasktel.net email address for all of their customers, adding that customers will no longer get the email address for free as part of their SaskTel internet service.

In response to Discover Weyburn’s request for an interview, the SaskTel media relations department provided a written response. In it, they stated that the Crown corporation understands how important email accounts and addresses may be to some people.

“In order to provide customers with ample notice of this planned rate change SaskTel has begun communicating to impacted customers,” the response continued. “SaskTel had issued a stop sell of the service in January 2022 since there are many free alternatives available.”

The communication to customers stated that the charges will start on April 21st, and customers will see the charge on the first bill after that date. The notice also provided a link on how to move to a new email provider.

SaskTel did not explain to Discover Weyburn why they were implementing the charge.
