The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings close out the regular season Monday night, as they welcome the Estevan Bruins to town. While the game won’t have a lot of impact on the standings, it will have a lot of importance thanks to the Highway 39 Cup, a wager between the police chiefs of Weyburn and Estevan, and the pride of both teams when it comes to the season series.

The Bruins have yet to pick up a win in Weyburn this season, with the Red Wings outscoring them 15-3 in the two games played here. This includes a 9-2 drubbing at the start of the season and a 6-1 victory back on January 7th.

The Red Wings come into the game as one of the hottest teams since the return from the Christmas break and are hoping to finish up the regular season on a positive as they prepare for the first round of the playoffs against the Battlefords North Stars. Estevan, meanwhile, will be taking on the Flin Flon Bombers in the opening round, a rematch from last year’s league championship.

Weyburn has also had a lot of success at home this season, especially against teams that are above .500. Meanwhile the Bruins, when playing a road game against an opponent with a record over .500, are 3-13-0-1. This does put a lot of momentum on the side of the Wings for the game.

The puck drops at Crescent Point Place at 7:00 p.m.
