The latest job numbers for the month of March, show that the Weyburn region lost 500 jobs.
That has the unemployment rate for the area jumping from 3.7% to 5%.
That is the largest one-month increase in more than a year.
Year over year, the region has still been performing well. There were 2,600 more people working in the region compared to March of last year.
Provincially, the unemployment rate increased 3 points to 6.2% as more people searched for work.
Compared with the previous year, employment in the province is down slightly as well.
The national unemployment rate was 7.1%.
