There were five games in the WCBL Sunday, as the league got back into the full swing of things after rains in Saskatchewan forced the postponement of a number of games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The biggest news of the day came when the Weyburn Beavers fell 6-5 to the Swift Current 57s. The loss ended a league-record 16-game winning streak for the Beavers. Justin Summers had two RBI in the losing effort, while Tanner Holen’s three-run home run in the fourth inning gave the 57s the lead.

Another wild game between the Edmonton Prospects and the Medicine Hat Mavericks as the two teams wrapped up a three-game weekend series Sunday. The Mavericks would hold on to win 13-12. The Mavericks saw third baseman Austin Sojka pick up four RBI in the game, with three of those coming off a home run in the fifth inning.

The Okotoks Dawgs continue their strong play in the Western Division. They routed the visiting Lethbridge Bulls 8-1 Sunday at home. Tristan Peters and Kory Longaker had two RBI each for the Dawgs. Okotoks starting pitcher Graham Brunner struck out eight over five innings of work.

After playing the Fort McMurray GIants in a close, 1-0 win Saturday, the Brooks Bombers upped the offensive output Sunday, as the two teams combined for 27 runs in a 17-10 win for Brooks. The two teams combined for nine home runs in the game, including two for Fort McMurray’s Max Hewitt.

There are five games on deck today, including a unique doubleheader between Yorkton and Melville.

The Millionaires will host the Cardinals at 11:05 a.m. at Pirie Field, with students from Melville coming in to watch the game, and pack the stands. Then, at 7:05 p.m., the two teams will meet up in Yorkton to play. Both of the games are rescheduled games which were postponed last week.

The Lethbridge Bulls are in Edmonton to take on the Prospects at ReMax Field. The game is a matinee affair, with the first pitch coming at 1:05 p.m.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks make the trip east for the second time in as many weeks, this time to Regina. They open a series with the Red Sox.

Meanwhile, the Brooks Bombers close out their three-game set with the Fort McMurray Giants. The Bombers are looking to finish off the sweep against their northern rivals.
