This Friday is the big day for the 42nd annual Weyburn Communithon

"We are gearing up for an incredible day," said Communithon Committee Chair, Lynda Rideout, who is the Executive Director with Envision Counseling & Support Centre.

"This year's Communithon theme is, 'Fall in Love with Communithon', and the Entertainment Committee has created a jam-packed schedule filled with hours of talent. There will be dancing, singing in many laughs to be had. these performers volunteer their time for us to help us raise much needed funds for the 10 community agencies that receive support from our fundraiser."

"The Communithon fundraiser is the one single fundraiser that allows you to stretch your dollar. One donation helps to support all 10 of our local agencies," she reminded.

Those community agencies are Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association Weyburn Branch, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Southeast Advocates for Employment, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-a-Van, and Weyburn Youth Centre. (Note: all hyperlinks are to the respective Facebook pages. Communithon's page is HERE).

"This spending is integral to these agencies so they can continue to provide their valuable programs and services for the citizens of our city and surrounding area."

She said the Youth Ambassadors will be making appearances throughout the day, with some special activities planned, "to bring the hype and community back to Communithon".

As well, the Knights of Columbus and Prairie Sky Co-op will be offering their traditional fundraiser meal at McKenna Hall, located at 317 Third Street.

"The perogy cabbage roll and smokie meal, is so delicious and all funds raised go to the Weyburn Communithon," she commented. "The meal is Communithon tradition and is so delicious. You'll get perogies cabbage rolls, smokies, onions, sauerkraut, sour cream, coffee juice, and ice cream, and you get this amazing full meal deal for only $15 for adults or $6 for kids under eight."

The food will be available between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Rideout said e-transfer is the preferred method of payment, which can be sent to KOFCC1731@gmail.com. However, cash or check will be accepted on location. You can eat in, or place an order for pickup by calling 306-842-4481 or 306-861-1997.

Rideout said this year's Communithon Online Auction wrapped up this week, which brought in just under $2,000.

"We are so grateful for the support shown to our fundraiser so far. This was a nice start towards our fundraiser reaching this year's goal of $82,023."
