While summer is still a couple of months away, the Weyburn Salvation Army is getting the plans put together for their annual summer lunch program. The program, which was first launched in 2020, helps to provide lunches for children throughout the summer. With the planning phase underway, Nicole Strickland, the Community Ministries Worker in Weyburn, explained there is one crucial part that makes the program a success every year.

“For the summer program, we are looking for sponsors,” Strickland said. “It costs us around $500 a day to make the 100 to 120 lunches we serve, so we are looking for sponsors that are willing to sponsor a day or two.”

In the past, businesses throughout the community have stepped up to help out, but the sponsorships aren’t just limited to the business community.

“We even have families that get together and pool their funds and sponsor a day, which is really cool,” Strickland added.
