Another big sponsorship for the Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative.

Wednesday, they announced Access Communications was the latest sponsor to sign on, helping to sponsor the two screens and the projector room.

“We’ve been in discussions with Access Communications for the past several months, and we’re extremely excited to have them on board as our Showtime Sponsor,” explained Sean Purdue. He is the theatre co-operative's treasurer. “Access is committing a total of $150,000, a combination of cash and in-kind services as a long-term agreement.”

With the announcement of Access becoming a sponsor, it now means the three major co-operatives in Weyburn – Weyburn Credit Union, Prairie Sky Co-op, and Access Communications – have become sponsors of the theatre.

“We’re just so thankful that they see the value in this project, and that they’re taking the community dollars that they collect, and that’s so important in the cooperative system, and injecting it into our cooperative,” Purdue added.

The project to bring a theatre back to downtown Weyburn is continuing at a steady pace. They are currently in the design stage, and the hope is for the community to see updates on the design within a few months. The hope remains for construction to start sometime towards the middle of this year.
