Setup has been underway at Weyburn's Exhibition Grounds for the past couple of weeks for the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show, which kicks off tomorrow and will run until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Board Chair Dan Cugnet said the event kicks off with a golf tournament tomorrow, followed by a tailgate party and the first-ever Outlaw Buckers & Oil Kings Match Bronc Riding event, a new addition to the show, which is a separately-ticketed event.

"Then the steak and lobster that night. Wednesday we'll have the chain-cutting in the morning and then the Hall of Fame and Legends luncheon that day, and of course all the vendors and exhibitors all day on the grounds," Cugnet shared.

Exhibitions will be open on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., after which a Prime Rib Dinner will be held prior to the 2024 Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Recognition Awards, during which the Saskatchewan & Southeast Saskatchewan Oil Person of the Year will be named.

On Thursday morning, the Safety Stand Down will include a free pancake breakfast, which will precede special guest speaker Tyler Smith, a Humble Broncos bus crash survivor, who will be giving a mental health talk.

Rt. Hon. Stephen J. Harper, former Prime Minister of Canada, will be the guest speaker for a luncheon event on Thursday, and the exhibitions wrap up at 3:00 p.m.

"Quick Dick McDick is coming back again, he'll be at the show throughout, and just a lot of star power with our award winners this year, but the real stars of the show are the vendors and the exhibitors, and the people that make the oil industry go day in and day out," Cugnet noted.

He said the event will showcase technology and provide networking connections.

All meals other than the pancake breakfast are ticketed events, with a small fee to enter the show to take in the exhibits.

"So it's a nominal charge to come to the show but well worth it and a chance to learn about the energy sector," Cugnet added.
