The holidays are right around the corner, and a sure-fire sign in Weyburn that they are approaching is the opening of the Weyburn Young Fellows Tree Lot. Located on 2nd Street, beside the Prairie Sky Co-op Food Store, a trip to the tree lot to purchase the Christmas Tree is often a tradition for many families in the city.

“We are opening up on Saturday, November 25th,” said Lee Tochor. He is a member of the Young Fellows and is in charge of the tree lot this year. “We will open on that day from 10:00 a.m. till 8:30 p.m. We expect things to be quite busy that day.”

Tochor explained they work to ensure the process is as smooth as possible for everyone, from the regulars they see every year to those who are purchasing a natural Christmas tree for the first time.

“When you come into the tree lot, we can help you pick it out, we can help you understand what type of tree you’re buying,” Tochor stated. He noted it isn’t quite as simple as walking onto the tree lot and picking out the biggest tree you can find, Clark Griswold style.

“We go through the process with you, make sure that it’s going to be proper for your house, things like that.”

As with all of their other endeavours, the proceeds from the tree lot stay in Weyburn, Tochor added.

“All the money that’s raised throughout this gets donated back into the community of Weyburn.”
