The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles football team opened their quest for a third straight league title Friday night, as they travelled down to Estevan to take on the Elecs. Weyburn would show why they are the defending champions out of the game with quarterback Conner Kerr finding Haydin Buehler for a 47-yard touchdown, and the Eagles never looked back. WCS would end up thumping Estevan 44-0.

Weyburn would end up scoring on their next four possessions, and on one Estevan possession, as they forced the Elecs to give up a safety.

Kerr would finish the game on the offensive side of the ball with two passing touchdowns, the second one a 71-yard play with Jarret Hayward carrying the ball over the goal line. He also added two field goals.

Also scoring for the Eagles was Markus Paquet, who had a rushing touchdown and a pick-six on the defensive side of the ball. Max Vennard also picked up a touchdown on the ground.

All of this happened in just the first half, as the Eagles took a 43-0 lead after the first 30 minutes of play.

In the second half, the Eagles swapped out a number of players, putting in a number of younger players to get some reps. While they would only add a single, they kept Estevan off the board.

Defensively the Eagles were led by Brody Walter, who had six tackles. Max Crane added a tackle, a sack and an interception, with Buehler getting an interception as well. Kerr had a defensive interception to go along with Paquet’s pick-six.

The Eagles will be back on the field Saturday when they travel to Swift Current.
