The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation gave notice last Thursday that they would be staging a one-day strike this Tuesday. Due to the one-day strike, classes in Weyburn are cancelled for all grades, along with all of the classes throughout the province.

"I have been a teacher for 15 years, and in that time, education has drastically changed," said Whitney Paul-Joseph. She is the president of the South East Cornerstone Teachers' Association. "We have more students in our province, yet less teachers, and it is incredibly hard to access the supports we need for the students in our classrooms."

The one-day walkout on Tuesday is the first job action taken by the STF since the negotiations with the province reached an impasse. A conciliation report was presented to both sides recently, but no further negotiations have taken place.

Paul-Joseph said while the temperatures will be cold, with a forecast daytime high of -19° and wind chills ranging from -44 to -31, that they will still be out on the picket lines.

"We have accommodations and all that kind of set up tomorrow with our registration, and kind of warm-up locations in Estevan, Weyburn and Moosomin," she told Discover Weyburn, adding the message for the day will be 'Buckle Up and Bundle Up'.
