How do you feel when the topic of mortality is brought up at the table? The conversation will focus in on this subject at Envision Counselling's next "Death Café" taking place at Michael's Coffee in Weyburn. Most people tend to shy away from discussing death and the process of dying, but a growing movement of acceptance and understanding is aiming to remove the anxiety that surrounds these talks. Any participants seeking an honest discussion about the end of life are welcome to pull up a chair and order their favorite hot drink while tackling one of life's most difficult topics.

"So a 'Death Cafe' is a global movement to increase awareness of death, with a view to helping people make the most of the finite lives," explained Raven Daer, Communications Specialist for Envision Counselling and Support Centre. "So, this is not a grief support or counseling group, but more so just an opportunity to increase ease and comfort with death and dying conversations."

The gathering is not exclusive to any particular group or individuals with a certain personal experience, it's rather open to anyone who could benefit from getting more comfortable with talking about death. The next meeting is set for tomorrow evening, March 7th, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Michael's Coffee in Weyburn. Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the free event by calling Envision Counselling at (306) 842-8821.

"This is something that is actually fairly new and we are just very excited to bring this forward to the community and see where it goes," said Daer. "We're trying to ease the topic and open up that discussion so depending on the success here, we may have the possibility of expanding to our other office locations as well."
