The Weyburn Beavers are gearing up for their 2024 Sports Dinner, and this year will have a very local connection with the special guests.

“Hometown product, and former NFL player, Brett Jones, is going to be one of the headliners, as well as the newly signed all-star running back for the Riders, A.J. Ouellette,” said team president Garnet Hansen. “We’re changing it up a little bit, going to a football theme this year, but pretty excited with the guests we’re able to secure.”

The sports dinner has become an integral part of the season for the Beavers, going back to the first one held in 2018 when Roberto Alomar Jr. was the special guest. Since then, the team has had former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, and former Blue Jays players Matt Stairs, Willie Upshaw, and Jesse Barfield.

Since the first dinner was held in 2018, the club has tried to schedule the dinner to coincide with the start of the season.

“Last year was an in-season one – it was on the 2nd of June last year, and this year on the 1st of June,” Hansen explained of the scheduling. “The nice thing about that is anybody that comes to the sports dinner is going to get an opportunity to see our players too, because they’ll be there helping out with the evening.”

Tickets for the dinner are now available. Individual tickets are available for $90 each, and a table is available for $700. Bronze sponsors can also get a table for the event, and then take part in a meet and greet with the guest speakers before the dinner itself.

Those who are interested in purchasing tickets can contact any member of the Beavers’ board, as well as through the team’s Facebook page, or by email.
