Members of Vilcu's Karate Klub was one of 12 clubs competing in the Yorkton Abominable Snow Slam Open Martial Arts Tournament, held Saturday, March 9th.

"We had 13 competitors that brought home altogether 9 gold, 18 silver, and 8 bronze trophies, including the infamous Power Breaking Trophy won by Sensei Troy McClelland out of our Estevan club," shared Robyn Vilcu. "This was Sensei's 7th year in a row, minus Covid, that he has achieved 1st in this spectacular event!"

She said Vilcu's was ranked 3rd as a club in the tournament.

"We are extremely proud of all our students from both Weyburn and Estevan," she said. "We will continue to train hard for our upcoming 39th Annual Vilcu's International Martial Arts Championships held here in Weyburn at the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles Gym on the 23rd in two weeks! We are excited to host many clubs from all over the prairies as well as the Unites States and, quite possibly, this year, other countries who have reached out with interest in competing with us."

Vilcu added that they are still continuing to look for sponsors in their newly introduced tiered system, as the club has grown in the last couple of years.

"The non-profit travel fund requires more support from our community to keep these kids going to other tournaments not only locally but provincially as well as internationally and nationally. Becoming a World Champion is achievable, and our sponsors help make that dream possible!"
