The Weyburn Beavers opened up the annual Alberta road swing last night as they travelled to Sherwood Park to play the Edmonton Prospects.

The Beavers would build up a lead through the first five innings, going up 4-1, before the Prospects exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, and held on for a 7-4 victory.

At the plate, Ian Heck led the way, going 2-for-4 including a solo home run in the fifth. Heck also drove in two runs. Ryan Muizelaar had a double and an RBI, and Dallas Cummins finished the day with a triple and an RBI.

Niko Kekatos would be held hitless for the first time in 11 games, ending his streak. He finished the night going 0-for-3, with one strikeout.

On the mound, the Prospects would use eight different pitchers, with only the final pitcher of the night, Brandon Russell, going more than one inning. The Prospect pitchers held the Beavers to just five hits.

Owen McConnell would be tagged with the loss for the Beavers, going for 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two and allowed four earned runs. Tanner Coddington allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Logan Wortman finished the game off, striking out two, and allowing no hits, in two innings.

The Beavers now take the trip up north to Fort McMurray, where they will play the Giants tonight and tomorrow night.
